‘Deceleration’ - a transdisciplinary project at Bern University of the Arts (HKB), 2009
The project featured a collaboration with the philosopher and author Günter Wohlfart. Topics included: Time capsules (e.g. the crypt of civilisation / the rediscovered 1855 darkroom of Petiot-Groffier / Drottningholm theatre / the tomb of Tutankhamun / the submarine H.L. Hunley), the Plymouth Slothbot, Susan Collins’ webcam works, John Cage’s ‘As slow as possible’ (aka the Halberstadt Organ Project), Andy Warhol’s time capsule boxes, Thomas Parnell’s long term ‘pitch drop’ experiments, The Long Now Foundation, the Pioneer and Voyager probes, the Rosetta language archive disk, Sam Taylor-Wood, Wolfgang Laib. The final performance consisted in entombing a time capsule containing material for a future exhibition in the walls of the HKB building. A specially build cable car was used to add works to the exhibition, ensuring that no one except the individual authors had seen the works included. The vernissage of the exhibition is planned for January 9, 2059.
